Netball Warm Up Drills For Game Day
Looking for netball warm up drills for game day that actually feel like netball? These four drills are designed to get players moving with purpose, sharpen the basics and bring the intensity up before the first whistle. They work for teams at all levels and can just as easily be added to your usual netball training warm up when you want something fast-moving, practical and game-focused.
Full-Team Netball Warm Up Drills
The first two drills are ideal when you want to get the whole squad involved at once.
The first is a variation of the classic four corners drill, demonstrated by Netball Super League side London Pulse. There is plenty going on, which is exactly what makes it such a useful game day warm up. Players are working on their passing, movement and timing while constantly adjusting to what is happening around them.

The second takes the traditional intercept drill and speeds things up. It keeps everyone active and gives players plenty of opportunities to practise driving hard for the ball, attacking passes cleanly and getting their timing right. It is a good one for raising the intensity without needing loads of space, equipment or complicated setup.
Together, these are great netball warm up drills when you want the entire team switched on, communicating and moving like they're about to play rather than going through the motions.

Small-Group Warm Ups for Midcourters and Defenders
Once your squad starts splitting into positional groups, the final two drills are ideal for smaller numbers.
The four-player drill is particularly useful for midcourters, although all players will get something from it. The workers combine quick footwork with strong drives towards the ball, changes of direction and controlled body positioning, while the two passers have to stay accurate and perfectly in sync. It gets the legs working, raises the heart rate and puts plenty of emphasis on sharp, purposeful movement.

For defenders, the final drill is a variation on the figure of eight and makes a brilliant pre-match option. Players work on their elevation, timing and defensive footwork while preparing for those back-and-up intercept opportunities that can turn a game. With only three players needed, it's also easy to run alongside other positional warm ups.
These drills are simple enough to slot into game day but useful enough to keep in your regular training rotation too. Save the ones that suit your squad, mix them into your existing warm up and adjust the speed or intensity to match the level you are coaching.
