Netball Hold, Step and Roll Attacking Move Tip
A nifty little Netball Hold, Step and Roll Attacking Move Tip via the ever brilliant @twinfitinsta that made us pause and think, 'I need to try that IMMEDIATELY.' It's a clever attacking tip for players to practise, polish and then sneak into their game.
The move starts with the attacker holding or screening the defender, then taking a step away to shift the defender’s weight and open up space. From there, the attacker rolls and drives into the space to receive the pass. It's especially useful for WA or C players trying to land on the circle edge, but the same idea can work anywhere a player needs to lose tight one-on-one defence.
What makes it so effective is the change in body position. The defender expects the attacker to keep pushing in one direction, then suddenly the attacker has rolled away and disappeared into the space behind them. Deeply irritating if you are the defender. Very satisfying if you are the attacker.
Use this as a small technical focus within an attacking session. Players can practise the footwork slowly first, then add a passer and build up to game pace. The key details are timing, balance, body control and making the roll sharp enough to actually fool and separate from the defender. Done well, it's a simple netball attacking move that creates a clean lead, a stronger circle-edge option and a much easier pass.
